Imagining an exhibition
I’d love to create an exhibition for the World of Hoops project. Below I put down some early concepts and visuals to get the idea out of my head and into the world. It’s not a polished proposal whatsoever, more like a collection of thoughts and mockups to help imagine what it could be.

Basketball courts are everywhere, but no two are the same. In the World of Hoops project I show basketball courts from cities and neighborhoods around the world. I use them as a medium to showcase different cultures around the world. And by placing these courts side by side the viewer sees both contrast and connections between the places. At first glance they might feel far apart, but through the lines, the surroundings and small details you see similarities.
— Cultures through the lines of basketball courts.
A World of Hoops exhibition is a visual journey across cultures. Some courts are bright and full of life, others are worn down or have makeshift baskets. The locations are just as varied: from a small square beside an Italian church to a hidden court deep in a Philippine forest. Each basketball court shows something about the place, the culture and the people who live there.
The viewer is invited to explore their own links between places, street scenes and the stories they tell.
An exhibition can include a mix of large and small fine art prints. The sizing of the prints can vary, some can go up to 125×90 cm / 49×35 inch. It all depends on the available space. The selection of courts Can be made by me and the curator. This is all open because these are not yet printed.
It may also feature video installations or immersive elements to bring the experience to life. Think of a indoor art/mural court or a pull-up wall-based installation where layers of paper sheets form images of courts where the viewer can reveal a new piece of a place by removing a page.
Courts from all over the world are shown, mixing in ‘local’ courts will give the exhibition both a global and local feel. Which will strengthen the connection with the city or neighborhood that the exhibition is in.
Selection of courts from the portfolio
These could be mural courts, driveway hoops or the ones that need some extra love.
